Infinity Foods

In a change from our normal producer spotlights we are looking into one of our wholesale suppliers. Infinity Foods has been supplying us with bulk loose, tinned and jarred items since 2018. We share a lot of values with Infinity, plus they help us get a good price for our customers.

Who are Infinity Foods?

A workers cooperative founded in 1971. Now based in Shorham-By-Sea. It all started with a shop in Brighton. Then in 1985 a wholesale division was created. They are now one of the UK’s leading distributors of quality, organic and fair trade products.

They also work with charities and local groups to help make fairly priced quality food available to more people.

What values do they share with Get Loose?

Like us, success is not only about covering their costs, they also care about environmental and social responsibility, and having a positive involvement in their local community.

As with Get Loose they are a team of like minded people, each one of them paid fairly, fully invested and part of the family.

Sustainability commitments

Packaging

They make sure their packaging is easily recyclable, or returnable, like us. We reuse the bags that the loose produce comes in as many times as we can.

At Get Loose boxes are offered to customers for storage, moving, composting and no dig gardening. If you want some just speak to the team, we get new ones each week.

Food Surplus

Their Food Surplus Redistribution scheme means that they keep food waste to an absolute minimum, while distributing high quality food and goods to those who could not afford them otherwise.

For us, any items going out of date are reduced in good time to sell. Those few that are not sold are given to staff.

What do we stock from them?

  • Dried fruit

  • Nuts

  • Teas

  • Baking ingredients

  • Soft drinks

  • Some tinned & jarred items

  • Some cereals

  • Herbs & Spices

  • Some toiletries

  • Some grains and pulses

How do they decide to add a new product to their catalouge?

Their buying team have a range of considerations when deciding on taking on new products. Organic is a BIG one for them. As they are huge supporters of the Organic movement, it’s a priority.

Obviously brands need to be ethical, sustainability, interesting/ back stories and people doing good work are things that get their attention too.

Things that turn them off are bad or unnecessary ingredients, overly processed products etc.

They are always listening to their customers, so, while they don’t necessarily jump on current bandwagons, they know what’s going on out there.

What food trends have they seen in 2025 so far?

Current trends seem to be fermented products, Kombucha and Water Kefir.

How has the cost of living crisis, and many refill shops closing, affected their business?

The cost of living crisis has hit everyone, and there are many challenges this year with to poor harvests due to erratic weather. They source well and are proactive to ensure they have what the customers want.

There has been a rise in Zero Waste/Bulk shops closing recently but, as this was a boom market anyway, it’s not surprising.

Infinity still supplies many businesses in this area with bulk commodities, grains, seeds, pulses, nuts and berries every week so, there are a lot of places out there still thriving.

Infinity Foods is a big part of what makes Get Loose function and we are very grateful to them.
